Most bizarre stories from the Guinness Book of World Records

The idea for the Guinness Book of World Records came out of an argument Sir Hugh Beaver, managing director of the Guinness Brewery, had on a hunting trip in the early 1950s. He wasn’t able to find the answer to the fastest game bird in any reference book. That later inspired his plan for Guinness to do a promotion around a book that would settle pub arguments. That first book, written by Norris and Ross McWhirter, was published August 27, 1955.
Guinness World Records (GWR) Day is an annual celebration of record-breaking where all are encouraged to show off their super skills. Yesterday (17 November 2021) marked the eighteenth annual Guinness World Records Day. Let’s take a look at some of the most bizarre records ever!
A Lifetime of Big Macs
U.S. resident Donald A. Gorske consumed his 26,000th McDonald’s Big Mac on October 11, 2012 — after 40 years of eating Big Macs on a daily basis. Have we found the real-life Jughead? We think so.
Apples and Chainsaws
Wang Lei is a acrobat. The most apples held in own mouth and cut by chainsaw in one minute is 28 and was achieved by him in Dezhou, Shandong, China, on 30 November 2020. Apparently this is the right way to slice apples and eat them.
Most piercings in a lifetime
After her first skin piercing in January 1997, Elaine Davidson was hooked. The former restaurant owner is constantly adding and replacing jewellery, mostly in her face. She enhances her exotic looks with tattoos and brightly coloured make-up, and often wears feathers and streamers in her hair.
Longest fingernails ever
The longest fingernails belonged to Lee Redmond (USA), who started to grow them in 1979 and carefully manicured them to reach a total length of 8.65 m (28 ft 4.5 in) Lee lost her nails in an automobile accident in early 2009. Manicuring them sure would have taken a lot of time and nail polish!
Longest moustache
Ram Singh Chauhan’s moustache is the longest, at 14 feet. The Indian man’s facial hair was measured in Rome, Italy, on March 4, 2010. He takes twirling to a whole new level!
Can’t have enough rubber duckies
Charlotte Lee (USA) has over 9000 different rubber ducks which she has been collecting since 1996 and has sourced them from all over the world. Her bath tub must be the envy of every little kid!
What was your favourite amongst these world records? Do you also have a super power you think must be documented?
