Bookshelves serve a dual purpose. That of storing our books and presenting an aesthetic feel to our decor. But having a large number of books and lots of shelves dedicated to them doesn’t necessarily mean they are sorted in the best way. If you are looking for effortless ways to organise your bookshelf, you are reading the right post.
Separate your paperbacks from hardbound books
This would give your shelves a streamlined and uniform feel. Also, looking for a particular book would be super easy.
Colour code your shelves
Organising your bookshelf as per colour can be a very creative way to showcase your books. You can also add accessories as per colour.
Go Horizontal and Vertical
Stacking books alternated with books in a row looks really good, if done well. It can break the monotony for the eye, while helping with putting books that are extraordinarily big or small neatly on the shelves.
Organize your bookshelf by genre or subject
Put books of a genre in one shelf. You could also group them together as per interests or the choice of family members. The best part, you know exactly where your favourite book is.
Put your TBR in one place
If you have a lot of books that are as yet unread, put them all in one place. There’s no greater joy than running your eye over all the titles waiting to be read.
Add Accessories
Book shelves can be used to add accessories that give your shelves character. Mix and match pieces that you love. To add variety, use metal, glass and wood in the same room. Put heavier pieces as bookends. You can use photo frames, vases, propped up colourful plates, little figurines for more interest.
Use the two-thirds rule
If your shelves feel cluttered or your room is already warm and full, you can consider blank space in your bookshelves for the eyes to rest. Avoiding overcrowding and over stimulation is just as important for a pleasing feel.
Pull books to the front
You may feel like pushing the books towards the back wall but that gives an untidy look. Instead pull them out towards the edge for a uniform look.
Use wallpaper for a bright backdrop
After all the books have been stacked the way you have always wanted, a bit of wall or shelf may still be visible. Use bright wallpaper to make things bright or for the colours to pop out.
Books are a way of self expression and our reading says a lot about our personalities. After all the organising of your bookshelf if you are left with books that you won’t be likely to read, you can give them away to friends who would cherish them.
