Bappi Lahiri, also known as Bappi Da needs no introduction. He was a legacy. He was a musician who performed as a singer, composer, and record producer. For years, Bappi Lahiri was a disco pioneer in Bollywood. He introduced the usage of synthetic disco music. Chalte Chalte, I am a disco dancer, Jawani Jaan-e-man and De de Pyaar de were some of his top hits.
What can you learn from such an iconic personality?
Be Yourself
Bappi Da never shied away from expressing himself. He was creative and even introduced a whole new genre of music in his time. And do you remember his bold fashion gold statement jewelry? The big sunglasses and his velvet cardigans? He created his own fashion style and carried it with grace and pride. People loved him for his unapologetic persona and vibe.
Create Your Path
He introduced disco in Bollywood when no one was aware of it. It took over Bollywood like a storm and made his songs an instant hit. With a blend of global sounds and energetic tones, he gave the music his own unique taste. His music and style ruled Bollywood for as long as we can remember. His music was used in films like Sharaabi, Disco Dancer, and mastery Aangan Ki Kali. His tunes are still associated with these films today.
Spread Happiness Through Whatever You Do
Music is something we all listen to in every mood of ours. His tunes and compositions were a delight to hear, sing and dance to. We still remember the craze “I am a disco dancer” song brought to our lives. He took his work seriously but never for one second did he forget about having fun and making his fans fall in love with his songs.
Take Risks And Surprise Everyone
He was the one who always believed in people. He introduced a lot of newcomers to the industry like Usha Uthup and Alisha Chinai who mesmerized us with their beautiful voices in Darling from 7 Khoon Maaf and Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli respectively. And his risk paid off. Apart from the disco hits, Bappi da also had a few hit Ghazals in his portfolio. He pushed himself and went out of his comfort zone.
Work On Building A Community Instead Of Just Concentrating On Yourself
Today we are celebrating his legacy: his songs, his love for fashion, and his personality. It wouldn’t happen if he didn’t love his fans or create music that people loved. We still dance to his songs, sing his tunes with family and friends in a fun game of antakshari and relive the memories we created as a community with him. He is gone today but will always have a place in our hearts.
