Earlier this month when World Art Day was nearing we thought about all the times any form of art has created history with the impact it has had on us. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for our community to use their creativity to look at social causes from a different lens.
With that in mind our Social Artistry contest was a hit with several entries. Art that expressed distress over poaching, food art that spoke volumes about the pandemic we’ve been through, deep portrayal of mental health and peace, insightful art and writing on the woes of war, eloquent poetry urging us to be mindful of the resources nature has given us and so much more encapsulated the entire activity.
Out of all the entries, let’s dive deeper into the art work of our three winners, Rashi Roy, Dr Priyanka and Seethalakshmi and know a little about their journeys.
Dr Priyanka is a writer but likes to dabble in visual arts too
She goes on to say,
Somebody I admire a lot once told me everyone is an artist. I may have taken that rather seriously. 🙂
It was 2020, the blasted year, that made me pick my paintbox once again. That was a phase when I had a lot to say but lacked the bandwidth to write lengthy posts. Much to my surprise, it was sketching that proved as a lifeguard then. Over the last two years, I did some traditional painting, a bit of mixed media, and eventually forayed into digital doodles.
When you really want to do something, inspiration comes from everywhere. Literally speaking, I draw from life and paint with my imagination. I choose to do comic strips. I find they are most efficient in spreading a message and allow me the flexibility to marry my words with my art. That way, it’s a win-win situation.

Seethalakshmi believes art has the power to move a person and bring about a change in ways one may not even expect
Here’s what she says,
So, when Blogchatter announced about the contest for World Art Day I knew I had to take part. It was obvious for me think of penning a poetry as that’s my passion cum profession but this time I wanted to involve my ten year old, Miss.M. That’s when I thought of trying a spoken word poetry and I ended up sending a poem with my daughter’s voice breathing life into it. It was fun teaming up with my little girl.
She felt she got something cool to discuss with her friends and believes that she can convince them to get into reusing or upcycling stuff to make the monster disappear. With this spoken word poetry, we guess we have made a difference, with one verse at a time.
Art appeals to kids and when art breathes purpose, it can make a world of difference.

Through “SKR & Daughters” Rashi raises funds for cancer patients by selling her paintings and recycled craft items
Rashi says,
I am promoting recycling through my work and encouraging everyone to join hands. I have been creating valuable products from recycled materials for a long time now. It started as a hobby and today it has turned into a venture. All the materials I use are available in every household like cardboards, boxes, bottles, newspapers, toilet paper rolls, old clothes and make products that can be as useful as pen holders, desk organisers, clothes organisers, mobile holders, small tables, side stands, jewellery boxes, or decorative things like wall hangings, flowers, vases and photo frames. I also share video tutorials on my YouTube channel which are easy to follow so anyone can try their hand at DIY at home.
I hope to encourage recycling as a habit so we can together save the environment and do our tiny bit.

The movement doesn’t end with a contest. Our community continues to create impactful content around relevant causes. You can see more of that here. The way anyone can be an artist, anyone can be a social artist too, bringing the world together for the greater good.
