7 interesting thriller sub-genre books to add to your TBR
Who doesn’t love the excitement of thrillers? The suspense, untamed villains, mistaken characters, and the high adrenaline-rush, is bound to plunge you deep into convoluted plots. There is so much mystery and drama in thrillers. But did you know that there are many sub-genres to thriller books?
Here are some of our favourite books from the thriller subgenre that we would recommend with all our hearts!
1. The Silent Patient
This 2019 psychological thriller written by Alex Michaelides, has one of the most shocking and gripping plot-twist that you would be dumbfounded. Thirty-three-year-old Alicia maintains a diary where she writes about her love for her husband Gabriel. However, one evening when Gabriel comes home after work, she shoots him five times in his face and goes silent, never to speak again.

2. The Defense
The Defense by Steve Cavanagh is one of the best legal thrillers I’ve ever read. Eddie Flynn is a con artist turned lawyer and is forced to defend the head of a Russian mob in New York City who is on trial for murder. He has a bomb attached to his body and the fate of his young daughter hanging in the balance. Will he be able to outsmart them. You should read both of these books.
3. The Wife Between Us
We can suggest quite a handful of domestic thrillers which revolves around creepy kids, suspicious spouses, and messed-up family. But The Wife Between Us tops the list because it is loaded with terrible twists and is unputdownable. With a cliched plot of husband, wife, and mistress it is sheer genius that the authors came up with such a twisted and complex psychological suspense novel about marriage, friendship, betrayal, manipulation, and obsession.
4. Six of Crows
A team of thieves with complementing skills and elaborate plans of a grand heist. What’s not to love? Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is a YA fantasy heist thriller that is adapted to the Netflix series Shadow and Bone. This duology is a must-read if you love fantasy, a badass woman of colour, swoon-worthy romance, and much more.
5. It
Horror thrillers equal Stephen King books. He is the king of horror stories and this book is a masterpiece. It is sick, it is wrong and you will be hooked to it before you know it. Also, clowns are scary.
6. The Bourne Identity
Published in 1980, The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum follows the story of Jason Bourne, a man who has the amazing ability to survive a disaster but then struggles with amnesia. The CIA seems to want him dead, and the book explores what happened to him as he tries to discover his top-secret identity.
7. Angels & Demons
We cannot end this list without mentioning Robert Langdon and his action-packed thriller books. Full of suspense and action, all his books are engaging and a definite page-turner. The adventure begins from the first page itself, if not the first line. Of secret societies and cults, classic art, and modern science, this book is mindbogglingly compelling.
