- Business & Tech
Technology is no doubt a man’s best friend today. What you can’t do continuously, your gadget does for you. Since the pandemic, there has been a huge rise in the use of technology. The already tech-savvy people used it even more and the others learnt the new technology to ease their lives. There are both positive and negative effects of technology on humans but it depends on how one takes it in his /her stride.
Being at the ease of home when technology works for you
Cloud services and Google drive have replaced office files now. You can work from home on Google sheets and coordinate as a team. Meets and Zoom calls create office space online and you converse face to face with your colleagues. As much as you save on transportation and time, you finish your deadlines at your convenience. Technology lets you work flexibly and rest equally.
Parties found a new address
When you can’t meet your friends and family in person then technology connects you well through Zoom. The year 2020 saw an enormous rise in Zoom calls and parties where all sorts of groups came in contact and started enjoying the new party norms.
Concerts and Literary festivals enlightened the internet
Nobody ever thought of attending Literary events and cultural concerts online. But the pandemic pushed technology to do even that. Artists missed their live audiences but were happy to perform in front of them through technology. Similarly, art and book festivals took place online where their audience supported them equally and enjoyed sessions the new way.
Shopping and food delivery
Shopping physically has its own charm where you can feel the product, try it and decide at the same time. Whereas, apps have made lives even more lethargic where you order, return and keep on doing the same at the click of some buttons.
Even food was most enjoyed when served at the table in new ambience but technology has given access to order food also through mobiles.
Are we over-using technology?
The pandemic has affected technology so much that except humans everything is tech-enabled today. A person in solitude is also talking to Siri, Amazon Alexa or Google assistance and asking ways to be happy. It’s good that technology has kept everyone together but only through the internet. The world still misses the social circle where you can understand another person’s thoughts through his body language.
Today, you need to ask your buddy on a call that is he alright? You can’t get an idea through looking at his face on a video call. Zoom fatigue has taken over internet users and people have had enough of everything. Because of no social gatherings, the mental health of people has been affected a lot and they are consuming technology for work, pleasure and everything possible through the internet except emotional well being.
Will we be able to end this fatigue and return to normal life? A Life that is a mix of human touch and technology where everything is in moderation.
