Do you know what the brand looks forward to first when they think about working with you? It is the answer to the question, ‘Who are you?’
Think about it, when you are new in the content creation world and when you reach out to brands or vice-versa, it is only fair for the brands to mull over it because they necessarily do not know much about you.
We can solve this problem by building a portfolio.
What is a portfolio?
Let us take the example of a photographer. When working with people, it is the pictures he takes that would provide an insight into the work. He has a better chance of getting hired when the brand finds photographs relevant to them in his portfolio.
So, the key to building a portfolio is to pay attention to the type of content you create. As a content creator, there are different ways you can build a portfolio.
Ways to build a portfolio
The different ways you, as a content creator, can build a portfolio are:
Your website
As a blogger and writer, one can easily showcase their work through their website. The best way to do this is creating a separate page highlighting all the important articles you have written. You can also incorporate the articles that got published in various books, journals or publications. An aesthetic way for you to do is to create a collage of the brand logos so that it catches the eye of your potential brand/employer.
Instagram/Tiktok
If you are into making short form content, be it pictures or short videos, Instagram or TikTok is the best way to go about it. If you want to work with makeup or fashion brands, your content should reflect just that. If you are into reading and want to work with publications, your Instagram should have reviews of the books you read. If travel is your jam, your content should depict the beautiful places you visit or the people you interact with.
YouTube
In this digital era, video streaming has been adopted by most of the social media platforms. Remember the times when Instagram was only about photographs? Now you cannot scroll through it without coming across a video every two seconds.
A video portfolio shows off your expertise in your field of business by demonstrating your skills and previous work to attract new clients in a video format. By creating a video portfolio on platforms like YouTube and Facebook, you can easily market your skills to potential employers.
Media Kit
A content creator media kit can be considered as your business card, CV, and portfolio of work, an all-in-one document. It summarizes the key factors related to your blog – the stats, achievements, and social media information, to name a few. A media kit also works as a great introduction to your blog and can be handed out to brands and potential advertisers for collaboration.
