5 foods we absolutely love around India

India is a famous for many things, but what India can never go wrong with is it’s food and culture. Our country has such immense diversity and different culture that the variety of foods is unlimited. Be it the food from North India, Chole Bhature in Connaught place and Dal Makhhani of Punjab and from South, the delicious Dosa and donut shaped Medu Vada. The momos of Darjeeling and Dhokla of Gujarat, all these amazing dishes come from every corner of India. They just don’t speak about our interests in food but they represent a much more important thing about our country, out inclusivity in culture and how it connects us through the love of food. It can easily be said that we are in love with our food but what is more fascinating is how every stall on those little corners represent our country through the spices from all around the world. So let us look at some of these foods and understand why we love our Indian food, and the superiority it holds.
Dosa
Dosa is one of most famous dish of our country that is served in big restaurants as well as on stalls in little corners all around India. Dosa is a thin, flat bread originally from South India (Udupi, Karnataka) with different flavors and styles as well. South India has many famous dishes that is appreciated all around or country, in North India, West and East as well. It represents the food culture of South India as it is a very simple dish that effortlessly tastes good. Much like the people, the dish is simple yet amazing. It is made from a fermented batter predominantly consisting of lentils and rice. And it is served with nariyal ki chutney (coconut chutney). It can be made at home easily with paying attention to the few technicalities. It has variations as well, like Masala Dosa, Rava Dosa, Cheese Dosa, Neer Dosa, etc.
Rajma Chawal
Here comes the heartbeat of most of the North Indians, Rajma Chawal also known as Rajma with rice and Razma. It is originated from the Indian Subcontinent and is highlt consumes in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Rajma chawal is one of the most consumed dishes of North India, specially Delhi. With masaledar flavors and rich ingredients, it represents the food culture of our country as we all have acceptance of other cultures and, can mix well like the Rajma that mixes with chawal. It consists of red kidney beans in a thick gravy with many Indian whole spices, and is usually served with rice. It is one tasty dish that is liked by many, so if you haven’t tried it yet what are you waiting for?
Biryani
Ah, mouth-watering rice with multiple flavors and spices tossed with Chicken pieces, sounds familiar? Well, yes it’s our beloved Chicken Biryani, brough from Persia to India by Mughals. Biryani represents the untold stories of North India and a legacy left by the Mughals along with exceptional architectural work. Rice and meat or vegetables are prepared separately, then combined and slow-cooked in the oven to create this aromatic “dry dish” but gravy can be added as it still tastes good. Also, using the Indian spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom add a delicate flavor. There are various varieties to Biryani as well, Chicken and mutton and, if you are vegetarian then you can try Veg Biryani as well. One thing about Chicken Biryani is that you can never go wrong with it, even the basic recipe would do wonders.
Litti Chokha
It would be harmless to say that Litti Chokha is a delightful food as it consists of amazing mix of spices and vegetables with the right amount of flavors. Litti Chokha is a complete Dish made originally from Bihar, India and has gained popularity in other states since the last few years. It can be seen being sold on small stalls in corners of Bihar and North Indian states as Delhi, UP. It is a dough ball made up of whole wheat flour and stuffed with gram flour, pulses and mixed with herbs and spices and then baked over coal or wood then it is tossed with much ghee. It is one of the most famous dishes of Bihar and much like the people, it is fun to make and tastes delicious and flavorful. Bihar has a rich culture of food as well, among sattu and Thekua (heavily made during festivals), Litti Chokha has made a place in people’s heart and, if you haven’t tried it yet then empty some space in your stomach and consume it.
Dhokla
Gujarat and it’s food has been one of the best things of India and among those, comes Dhokla with rich ingredients and simple yet different flavors. The dish has gained popularity not only in India but worldwide as well, it has become of the most popular dishes of America. It is made with a fermented batter derived from legumes like Chickpea, Pigeon pea and Urad and rice and, made of Bengal Flour to give it a soft texture. Dhokla is low-calorie, healthy and protein-rich, can be easily cooked as well.
Indian food has always been famous all around the world, with foriegners coming to India to try to big countries having famous Indian restaurants, it has been appreciated for it’s flavors and taste. So, give these dishes a try along with others because well, you don’t want to miss it.
