Watching a bollywood movie full of VFX and overhyped stunts can make you feel tired. We tend to question ourselves, can this be possibly real?
Because some days we like to laze around and watch a movie which can be relatable on a personal level. Nowadays Bollywood is more focused on their box office collection than on the story. When Alia in Gully boy said,
“Mere boyfriend ke sath gulu gulu karegna toh dhoptuingi hi na usko”,
it became so popular that everyone began acting like her when making Instagram reels. It’s not everyday that you can expect Bollywood to show us a simple movie, but here are 7 relatable Bollywood movies that you must watch once in your life.
Dum Laga Ke Haisha
Dum laga Ke Haisha works well as a quirky romantic comedy. Prem had hoped to marry a lovely woman, but fate had other plans for him. He reluctantly marries Sandhya, who is overweight, contrary to Prem’s choice. Prem continues to ignore his wife after their marriage, whereas Sandhya tries to arouse her husband’s love for herself. Under the pressure of his family, the poor man is forced to compete in a city race. Their hatred for each other eventually turns to love.
Rang Birangi
A 1963 comedy drama depicts a relationship in which a successful businessman became a workaholic, ignoring his wife for more than 7 years. His friend notices her loneliness and resolves to alleviate it by reuniting the spark in their relationship. This film is about friendship and finding joy in the smallest of things. It’s the ideal cult classic comedy film.
Queen
The most relatable situation is a typical middle-class girl’s wedding being called off at the last minute. The only way to avoid her relatives’ and friends’ comments and stares would be to flee somewhere. The bride’s independence in going on a solo honeymoon after being rejected may be exaggerated, but it is a problem that people face at weddings. The experience she went to was an attempt to depict a woman’s life from a different angle. She discovers that women can be independent, make decent male friends and make their own decisions.
Black
A unique film that deviates from mainstream Bollywood hypes. This film is for those who want to help their less fortunate colleagues. The film demonstrated how a mentor can assist you in living a meaningful life. The director depicted the difficulty of being deaf and blind, as well as our way of thinking and understanding them, in the film. Mr Sahay, as a teacher, took his job so seriously and wanted to do the best for Michelle that he instilled in her a thirst for knowledge, and she began to excel despite her flaws.
Wake up Sid
The character played by Ranbir kapoor will remind you of your college days when you were trying to figure out what you wanted to do in life and in your career. Sid was spoiled and confused about his career, his character could be resonated by each one of us.
Piku
When you already have to deal a lot with your profession, everyday tantrums and health issues of your ageing father, you will definitely relate to Piku. You love your parents the most, however living with them is difficult. The beautiful portrayal of Bengali culture has been one of the most great captures done by the movie.
Dil Chahta Hai
Every character is related to our generation. From the real conversation, to the relationship between the characters, it’s truly one of the best movies for youngsters and for Indian cinema. No doubt it has made Goa our favourite destination.
A film can be fictional, including characters and plot, while still being relatable. We’ve all lost something important to us or been involved in a fight for survival, and we’ve all experienced these human emotions. When these exact experiences are depicted in a film, we feel more at ease watching and relating. It might not be a box office hit, but it leaves an impression on you in some way.
