It is a well-known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Having a nutrient-rich breakfast in the morning offers many health benefits. Scientific studies show that people who eat their breakfast regularly have better energy levels throughout the day. A healthy breakfast helps in fulfilling the daily nutritional requirements of the body and also works as a supporting factor in reducing the risk of various lifestyle diseases like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Although morning hours are rush hours, however, you can eat a healthy breakfast daily, if you plan ahead. In this post, we share some easy and quick breakfast ideas for busy mornings.
We have included both sweet and savory breakfast options for your convenience. You can select any one as per your taste preference and availability of ingredients:
Overnight oats
Oats is one of the healthiest grains that offer many health benefits. If you are not a fan of traditional oatmeal or oat porridge, then you can try the overnight oats recipe. Soak the old-fashioned oats in regular milk or any plant-based milk (almond milk, cashew milk etc.) of your choice. add chia seeds and sweeteners of your choice. Next morning, add finely chopped fruits and nuts of your choice. Your tasty and healthy overnight oats is ready to enjoy.
You can make the various flavor of overnight oats by changing fruits and toppings. You can also add a few drops of vanilla extract to make vanilla flavors overnight oats. The best part of this recipe is that you can make this ahead and can have a yummy and healthy breakfast despite having a hectic morning routine.
Parfait
If you are someone who does not like the taste or texture of oats, then parfait is another great breakfast option for busy mornings. You can prepare parfait ahead and can use this as a “Go-to breakfast option” too.
For making parfait, take a glass and start making layers by adding yoghurt, whole-grain cereal and yoghurt of your choice. Try to use Greek yoghurt as it has high protein content. Make 2-3 layers of each substance as per the size of your glass. In the end, add toppings of your choice (chocolate chips, coconut flakes, seeds etc.). parfait is a kid-friendly recipe too. Kids can make this by themselves and can have a tasty and healthy breakfast in the morning.
Smoothies
Smoothies are another great breakfast option for busy mornings. Smoothie is the best recipe to include various essential nutrients easily in our diet.
Take frozen fruits of your choice (mixed berry, strawberry etc.), add ½ cup frozen banana and 1 cup milk of your choice. If you want you can add seeds and nut butter of your choice to make it creamy and more nutritious. Blend everything and serve this immediately.
For some people, banana is enough to give proper sweetness but if you want you can add natural sweeteners (like honey or maple syrup) as per your taste preference. You can also add 1-2 TSP oats to your smoothie recipes to make them more filling.
Whole wheat banana pancakes
Kids love pancakes. Store-bought ready make mixes are not the best option for making pancakes. They are loaded with sugar and may contain other unhealthy ingredients too.
If you are looking for a healthy pancake recipe, then a whole wheat banana pancake is the best option. Take 1 cup whole wheat flour and add 1 ripe mashed banana. Mix everything properly. If you want you can add cardamom powder to this batter for adding extra flavor. Make a uniform batter by mixing little milk at a time. Heat the pan and apply ghee. Now, pour the mixture and make pancakes. Roast this from both sides, until it turns golden brown. Drizzle honey and chopped nuts for garnishing. Your tasty and healthy breakfast is ready to enjoy.
Tasty toast
Toasts are another easy and healthy breakfast option for busy mornings. Take multigrain or wheat bread and roast it for a few minutes. Now, take a spread of your choice (hummus or green chutney) and add toppings as per your taste. You can make sweet and savory breakfast toast both as per your taste preference. Avocado toast, nut butter and banana toast and Suji toast are some of the healthy and tasty breakfast toast options.
Energy bite or energy ladoo
If you do not want to spend any time on breakfast preparation in the morning, then you can prepare energy bite or energy Laddo ahead and can have this as a quick and healthy breakfast in the morning.
Take 1 cup of rolled oats and dry roast it for a few minutes. Next, take 1 cup of nuts and seeds of your choice and try roasting them too. Almond and walnut work best in this recipe. Soak the 1 cup of dates in warm water and make a paste by grinding in the grinder. Grind the oats and mix nuts and seeds too. Mixed all things together and make a uniform mixture. You can add 1-2 TSP of ghee if the mixture feels too dry to hold. Now, make Laddo or square shape bites with this mixture. This energy bite or energy Laddo is the best breakfast option for busy mornings.
Sprouts
If you are someone who does not like to eat sweet things in the morning, having a bowl of stir-fried sprouts can be a good breakfast option for you.
You can use any sprouts (chana, moong or moth) as per your choice. Now, take 1 TSP oil and add cumin and mustard seeds. After spluttering, add other routine spices (red chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder, salt) as per your taste. Add this tadka to sprouts, and garnish with finely chopped veggies of your choice (tomato, cucumber, onion etc.). add some lemon juice before serving. Your tasty and healthy breakfast is ready to enjoy.
Chillas or Indian style pancakes
Chillas or Indian style pancakes are another good breakfast for those who prefer savory and Indian style breakfast in the morning. You can try different batters and can add various veggies to make it nutrient-dense. Besan Chilla, oats-Suji Chila or multigrain Chilla is some of the popular options to have a tasty, healthy and filling breakfast in the morning.
Vegetable poha and upma
Poha and upma are two staple breakfast options in most Indian households. But you can make these recipes healthier by adding finely chopped vegetables of your choice. Sprout poha is another great variation to the routine poha recipe that has increased nutritional value.
Instant Dosa (whole wheat or Rava Dosa)
South Indian recipes are another popular breakfast option in India but most of these recipes are either time consuming or require pre-planning.
If you are someone who likes south Indian breakfast recipes but did not have enough time, then you can try whole wheat flour Dosa or Rava Dosa. Take whole wheat flour or Rava in a bowl. Add curd and salt. Also, add finely chopped onion and green chilly as per your taste. Make a thin batter. Pour the batter evenly on a non-stick Tava and make thin-crisp Dosa by applying ghee or oil on both sides. Serve it with any chutney or dip of your choice. Your tasty and healthy breakfast is ready to enjoy.
