The pandemic has tossed everything haphazardly like onions and bell peppers on a frying pan! One aspect that is majorly affected is our struggle with weight loss. The Work From Home scenario, sedentary lifestyle, unstructured meal timings have all affected our diets resulting in either obesity or an unhealthy weight loss. Celebrity fitness expert, Rujuta Diwekar talks about simple and realistic weight loss regimens and diets we can follow for long term results. Let’s hear from the most sought after speakers globally on health and fitness.
All about weight loss
There’s a good chance that many of us go completely off track after starting a weight loss regime. This happens because we do not pursue it properly. Did you know that you can actually follow a few tips with nothing else other than home cooked food and education? Home cooked food is the best to promote good health. Also, it is something doable by all of us. Apart from that there are a few points we must understand before we jump into any diet we come across.
Fat weight vs lean body weight
Body weight is divided into fat weight and lean body weight. Lean body weight includes everything else’s weight, i.e., hair, nails, bones, muscles, etc. As we start ageing, we start to accumulate more fat weight and less of lean body weight. The key is to find a balance that will reduce the fat weight and maintain lean body weight.
Ironically, the methods we use such as drinking just soups, or eating a mere salad following crash diets just to lose weight for a wedding, to fit into that perfect little black dress, or to look skinny for that date only increases our fat weight. We look older and weaker than ever and are prone to more diseases. Rujuta explains and gives us the correct approach we should choose.
Correct approach to weight loss
Sustainable way to lose weight is the kind of method that you can follow for the next five years effortlessly and then go on to follow for the next 15 years and more. The kind of weight lost in such practices never comes back. So, when you follow such a method you begin to have better hair and skin, regular periods, lesser sugar cravings, better digestion and better lean mass. In short, you will glow in radiant health!
Adopt methods that increase lean body weight and decrease fat weight says Rujuta Diwekar. While in the long term you’ll definitely see a loss in weight by these methods, in the short term you will see holistic improvement in health, but not an instantaneous visible weight loss. She recalls that in her career of 20 years she’s never used a weighing scale for her clients nor encouraged them to do so at home! Measuring weight only causes anxiety and stress. That number we see on the scale is just a number.
Body weight is not a measure of fatness or fitness
Right methods reduce the chances of blood sugar and other diseases that come with age. Measuring body weight doesn’t determine if you are fit.
She then goes on to talk about 3 tests to measure your fitness:
1. Waist to hip ratio
2. Sit and reach test
3. Resting heart rate
Watch her demonstrate and explain each point as she takes her views on a journey of realistic and health weight loss. Tell us what is one health tip you follow for a healthy weight and over all well being?
