Create a Monday routine that’ll make you forget the blues

Monday blues with the memes and jokes that follow are endless. Mondays never cease to bother us even in a Work From Home scenario. We always dread it like it is doomsday and wait for it to pass like an eclipse! But is Monday so bad really? Or have we made too much of it as the worst day of the week universally that the bad reputation stuck and Monday anxiety followed?
As much as we find all the Monday memes relatable, maybe it is time to change how we look at Monday? So, here are some tips to create a Monday routine that works for you and kick all the blues away.
Use that planner you have stashed away!
Ok, it’s no secret that most of us love hoarding notebooks and planners especially at the beginning of the year that we barely use. Maybe keep it at a place you will not fail to notice and make sure you write down your to-do lists and plan for the day in order of priority. It always gives a good start when you have a structured plan in mind before you move forward. If you like to get creative, you could even use stickers and highlighters to give a scrapbook effect. The key is to add fun to whatever you do.
Divide your day into doable bits
When you plan your day, even the points in your planner may look intimidating if you don’t divide it into smaller portions of tasks. It may take a little time to adjust to a routine, but it’s not impossible. Divide your day into morning, noon and evening tasks. Pace yourself. You know best when your energy is highest and when you just have enough for lighter work- shape your schedule accordingly. You can even get specific into tiny details with your list if that helps you such as, ‘wake up, brush, exercise, shower, breakfast, etc.’ Ticking of each task motivates us to move on to the next and before we know it, we would have aced the day.
Add a treat to your schedule
All work and no fun can get super tedious. We look forward to weekends with so much eagerness because we have exciting plans to do something fun, get things done that weekdays don’t allow or maybe just relax. Whatever it may be that we enjoy doing at the end of the week, weekends have become as famous as Mondays have become infamous.
Why not add an element to Mondays that makes you look forward to it? Who says we can’t make time in the week to have a little fun, maybe watch an episode of a favourite show, catch up on some reading, cook that delish recipe you saw the other day, and so on? We don’t need to wait for the weekend. When our schedules are planned well, we can add in some fun too. After all, everyone is given 24 hours a day. Scheduling time for a little flexibility can do wonders to Monday blues.
Make your bed
Yup, you heard it right. Make your bed every morning! Admiral McRaven once said this as he addressed students. A simple task, you may think, but completing that one easy task gives a small sense of accomplishment that sets a positive mood for the rest of the day and tasks ahead. And ultimately, even if it turns out to be a bad day, as sometimes days are, you come back to a perfectly made bed you can rest in knowing tomorrow will be better. It’s the little things, always the little things.
Now that we’ve changed the reputation of daunting Monday, let’s move on to Terrible Tuesday, but that’s for another post 😛
