It’s the summer season in our country which means the temperature soar high and the weather is dry, especially if you are in a place like the national capital. Our skin needs extra pampering from sunburns, rashes, tanning, and acne.
So, here are some summer skincare routines that you can follow including some handy tips on skin hydration and sun protection.
Summer Skincare Routine
- Let’s start with the basics. A good sunscreen is an absolute must in any season, or time of the day. There are long-term hazardous effects of basking in the summer sun for a long, inspection when the UV rays penetrate the skin, and break down collagen causing wrinkles, sunspots, and fine lines. Most dermatologists recommend sunscreens of SPF 50 or higher. Apply it generously on any exposed skin and not just your face. This includes your ears, neck, hands, and feet.
- Stay hydrated. Drinking more than two liters of water will help in flushing out the toxins. You can also go for coconut water and other fruit and vegetable juices. Opt for hydrating products for your skin like gel-based or water-based moisturizers.
- Cleanse. Choose a cleanser that suits your skin type and wash your face at least during the day. If you have dry skin, opt for a hydrating face wash and if you have pigmentation and dark spots, go for a Vitamin C-rich cleanser.
- Face Oils. Face oils are another great option to pamper your skin with antioxidants this summer. Cleanse the face at night and apply the face oil to let the antioxidants work their magic at night while you catch up on that beauty sleep of yours.
- Exfoliate. As summer approaches, humidity and heat shoot up making our sebaceous glands produce excess oil. This oil will get down to the pores and cause whiteheads and blackheads. This is where exfoliation plays a major role. Exfoliation is a great way to unclog your pores and get rid of all the dirt and dry dead skin cells. Exfoliate at least twice a week for best results.
- Moisturize. A good moisturizer helps restore skin moisture balance and hence this step should not be skipped. Go for a lightweight moisturizer to avoid clogging the pores. A water-based or gel-based moisturizer should work best.
- Vitamin C Serum. Vitamin C serums are a good source of essential nutrients. Applying a Vitamin C serum will help achieve an even-toned complexion and glowing skin. It will also make your skin soft and supple.
Additional tips:
Go easy on makeup. Use lesser makeup in summer than you would on a normal day. Makeup interferes with excess sweat, sebum, and dirt causing acne.
Keep Aloe vera gel handy at all times, especially during summer. From hydrating and soothing dry skin, it can also be used to prevent itchiness and dandruff when applied on the scalp.
Use hydrating facemasks like an Ubtan, Aloe, Lemon Honey, Green Tea, or Avocado, facemasks that will penetrate deeply into the skin leaving your skin feeling fresh and supple.
