The future of our planet: Global Health

Our planet, our health is what we celebrate this year on World Health Day after over two testing years of the pandemic. An increase in pollution and incidence of disease has urged us to focus on this theme and think of an action plan that will help the planet and everything it sustains stay healthy.
According to WHO, 13 million deaths are caused due to avoidable environmental causes. “This includes the climate crisis which is the single biggest health threat facing humanity,” WHO added. “The climate crisis is also a health crisis.”
Speaking about the corona virus crisis, WHO said, “The pandemic has revealed weaknesses in all areas of society and underlined the urgency of creating sustainable well-being societies committed to achieving equitable health now and for future generations without breaching ecological limits. The present design of the economy needs to change.”
We need to foster a movement to create societies focused on well-being
Societies that focus on well-being become healthy societies. Breaking away from the current pattern that is destructive requires legislative action, corporate reform and individuals to be supported and incentivized to make healthy choices. Here are a few ways this can happen:
Reimagine your world
A long term plan is required to make our world a safe and healthy place. For this to happen, the governments, corporations, health workers and healthcare facilities, mayors and individuals have a set of tasks at hand to execute at their level. Collectively this can help us reimagine and actually bring to life the world we want.
Tell your healthier tomorrow stories
The world believes in the power of stories and rightly so. WHO has urged governments and the public to tell stories of the steps they’ve taken to protect the planet and their health in order to prioritize well-being. Our stories have the power to create enough positive impact. The news is largely dominated by negative stories, disasters and more. Reimagining our world and taking small steps to bring about change is something worth sharing. Our community has been talking about their sustainable lifestyle, steps they’ve taken to improve their mental health and stories of recovery from the pandemic.
Having the ability to share stories gives us a unique opportunity for a green and healthy recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, that puts the health of individuals and the planet at the center of actions and fosters a movement to create societies focused on well-being.
