December is here, another month of festivities, good food, get togethers, year wrap ups, reflections, travel and so much more.
Christmas is a much-loved festival. It is when every place is draped in multicoloured fairy lights, flowers and paper streams. In the mall, the Christmas tree and entry place are decorated, and Santa Claus is there, who brings smiles to children’s faces. Cake, cookies, different cuisines specific to different regions, stories, all highlight this beautiful winter festival.
Let’s know how Christmas is celebrated in India in different parts.
How is Christmas celebrated in different parts of India?
Goa
Goa is a place in India with a large number of Catholic people. There are old Portuguese-style small and big churches. Here people sing carols during Christmas and a midnight mass is held on Christmas evening.
The Christmas decorations are there at houses, markets and streets in goa. In Goa, Christmas gets celebrated like big festivals such as Diwali.
Shillong
If you want to see the true grandness of Christmas, then take a trip to Shillong. In churches, you will feel the festival spirit. While on the road and market, you can enjoy delicious cake and other dishes.
Kolkata
The city becomes alive during Christmas as every place there is light and colourful spreading of the festival from nook to corner. On Christmas evening, you can enjoy delicious food and be a part of a long church mass at night.
Kerala
It is a state which largely has a Christian population. The celebration takes place in full pomp and grandeur. Christians decorate their houses with lights, trees, and props, and the churches are decked up too. They exchange gifts and cakes with their friends and family and have a lavish dinner.
Christmas is celebrated in Kerala like Diwali.
Mumbai
When you have to celebrate the Christmas tradition, visit the suburbs of Bandra, as there are numerous Catholic churches. Also, visit the hill of Bandra to enjoy delicious delicacies from bakeries, decorations in the house, lights etc.
