Are you on a shoestring budget but would still want to elevate your home to give it a high-end look?
Relax. We are here to tell you that decorating your home does not have to cost an arm and a leg. If you are pinching pennies and do not have the money to tear down walls, buy new furniture or basically break the bank, DIY is the way to go.
There are some smart and inexpensive ways to go about it and let us check out seven such easy DIY home décor ideas on a budget.
1. Plants
Placing a plant instantly adds a pop of colour to any corner, be it the nightstand, bookshelf, center table, kitchen, or dining room. It not only brings personality, but most indoor plants also help purify the air.
To accentuate further, try your hand at DIY flower pots. From using wine bottles for hanging plants to painting old glass bottles, and tying them with woolen threads, ribbons, or macrame, pot decoration is a fun thing to do.
2. DIY Tassels
Boho Chic is the new style in home décor and Pom Poms and Tassels are a must-have in any bohemian interior. They add whimsy to anything and it is also easy to do. You can include them in a variety of elements like making garlands, adding to baskets, throws, and pillows, and just about anything. Furthermore, you can choose colours to match your home décor and changing seasons.
3. DIY LED Bottles
Do you have a collection of coloured glass bottles or have liquor empties? You can also use Mason jars for this activity. Simply insert white or gold fairy lights inside the bottle, hide the wires and you are all set. You can take this up a notch if you can get hold of made-for-wine-bottle fairy lights where the batteries and light switch are attached to a cork. Unravel the lights, stick them down the neck of the bottle, and secure them with the cork.
You may also decorate the bottle exterior with glitters or tie the neck of the bottle with colourful twines.
4. Books, Books, and More Books
Trust us when we say books also make for perfect home décor. Arrange the books into chunks of colour, say red, green, yellow, or blue to provide a striking visual element to your space. You can also display them in rainbow or pastel colours for a more appealing look.
Add a stack of three books of varying heights to your coffee table, where the larger books go at the bottom. Experiment by removing the dust jackets or stacking the books of equal size too.
5. DIY Gallery Wall
Wondering how to display posters, prints, or the photographs that you click- be it of your furry friend, flowers, or a loved one? A gallery wall is the best way to begin. All you have to do is collect the things that you love and group them into a theme, say abstract prints, landscape photos, happy memories, pencil art, illustrations, book covers, or movie posters. Measure your wall space and pick frames. You can either go for different sizes or the same. Decide on the layout between neat rows or scattered arrangements. Now get them all up, stand back, and bask in the glory of that display gallery wall.
6. Cane Webbing
Give the trending cane webbing a try for it is all the rage right now. In India, cane was always an inexpensive alternative to wood furniture. To bring a twist, add cane webbing to coasters, trays, candle holders, lampshades, or wall panels, in addition to revamping your furniture.
7. DIY Embroidery Hoop Wall Hanging
Another affordable and creative way to add to your boho décor is to use embroidery hoop art for your wall display. All you need are a couple of embroidery hoops and a few different types of fabric.
Separate the inner and outer hoops and place the fabric between the two hoops such that the design of the fabric is showing through the larger hoop. Cut off the excess fabric leaving about ½ inch and glue it down on the inside with the help of a hot glue gun. There you have it. Try it with hoops of different sizes and fabrics and hang them on your wall.
To conclude, maintaining a clean and well-ventilated space is the key to elevating your home. Allow plenty of natural light and swap out your throws and cushion covers to spruce up your space.
