One of the greatest ways to spend quality family time is to snuggle up on the sofa with your little kids, an engaging movie, and a huge bucket of popcorn. But, settling on a film that everyone wants to see isn’t simple (cue- oh will everyone please stop shouting at once?!). With people of all ages and preferences to please, it’s never simple to select a film that will make everyone happy. It’s also not impossible – especially in this golden period of animation and feel-good family entertainment that actually resonates with us. Here are some movie recommendations for all generations, including several throwbacks from your own childhood. Dim the lights, have your popcorn ready, and relax. Have viewing!
THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (2017)
Put on your favorite pajamas and have the popcorn ready because this family-friendly musical will keep everyone delighted for at least an hour and 45 minutes. Hugh Jackman portrays P.T. Barnum, the famed Ringling Bros in Barnum & Bailey Circus. Featuring catchy musical numbers, exotic performers, and daring acrobatic feats, Barnum’s mesmerizing spectacle soon takes the world by storm to become the greatest show on Earth.
THE KARATE KID (1984)
Daniel is a new student in his high school. To protect himself from bullies, he seeks the help of Mr. Miyagi, a mechanic who also happens to be a martial arts teacher. A thrilling, pleasant, heart-warming narrative about one of the most intriguing friendships in a long time.
THE HARRY POTTER SERIES (2001 – 2010)
J.K. Rowling’s magical story of a young wizard fighting against evil Voldemort is one of the best movies we have ever seen. Even if you haven’t read the books, no worries! It’s possibly the greatest movie series of all time and your watch-list will be set for the next eight days and more.(there are eight films, plus a few spin-offs). So, snuggle up with popcorn!
TOY STORY FRANCHISE (1995)
This animated movie about toys that come to life is ideal for family movie night, with enough inside jokes for grownups. It’s so amazing that it’s generated three sequels including several spin-offs, ensuring that you’ll be entertained for the next several weekends.
HOME ALONE (1990)
While the idea of going on vacation and leaving your eight-year-old child behind is unthinkable, you’ll be glad the McAllisters did it by mistake. This holiday favorite (that can be enjoyed all year) is packed with enough amusing antics to keep the whole family delighted.
JUMANJI (1995)
Forget about the remake; the original film is guaranteed family entertainment. When two youngsters discover a magical board game, they unleash a world full of adventure (including Robin Williams, who has been locked inside the game for decades) and perils that can only be averted by completing it. This movie is an absolutely incredible adventure, with plenty of laughter, action-packed thrills, terrific music, gorgeous settings, and inspiring themes.
THE INCREDIBLES (2004)
The Parrs are just trying to live a typical, quiet suburbia existence in this 2004 animated movie. But when you’re a family of secret superheroes, that’s not easy. Kids of all ages will enjoy watching to see whether these people can save the world from a superhero wannabe.
THE MARVEL MOVIE FRANCHISE (2008)
The Marvel cinematic universe has it all: action, adventure, great storyline, and superheroes. Iron Man was the first film in the franchise, and the heroes just keep on coming: Captain America, Black widow, Thor, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spiderman, to mention a few. Numerous series were also launched since the past year as the MCU phase 4 started. Buckle up, adventure is on the way!
There’s always the chance that family movie night will implode and end with someone storming off or sleeping early because they got bored. And so, choosing the right movie is extremely important. From action to comedy to classic, these movies will make your next family movie night more entertaining, less tense, and an all-around good time.
