Handling more than one work at the same time is multi-tasking.
Today the world demands us to be multi-taskers. An employee needs to handle multiple tasks in the office, a homepreneur ought to manage calls while delegating work to helpers at home, a trainer prepares for a training session while scheduling the priority list for the day, and A student studies notes while checking through courses uploaded online from the teacher.
Is multitasking necessary?
Multi-tasking is essential to save time and energy to keep the momentum going and to carry out tasks within a specific time frame.
Working cultures have been modified in almost every professional sector by the efficient use of technology and multi-tasking is a noted aspect of the current trend.
The irony of multitasking
The basic principle by which multi-tasking works is dividing our focus on different things and completing all the tasks at hand.
All this is done to be quick in our work but on the contrary, it is observed that multi-tasking can hinder our performance as when much complex work is done together we tend to make mistakes, mess up not one but many things and the quality of our work deteriorates.
Having said this, multi-tasking is still a part of our lives and we need to do this more smartly.
Pointers to be efficient multi-taskers
Connect an auto-pilot work with work that requires good attention
Multi-tasking cannot be overlooked and if we need to do this, we need to filter the work as per an auto mode done by our mind that pulls no stress and pairing it with a structured work that uses our cognitive skills
Ex: Listening to soothing music in the background and working on a project work that requires us to be very attentive to it.
Liberate your brain to continuously work
Every part of the body needs rest. Continuously using the brain for the whole day in multiple-tasking work can cause it to become problematic. Dividing the work into a single task rather than always being engrossed would give it a little time to ease and would lessen the stress that occurs from multi-tasking.
Grouping similar tasks together
Assembling relatable work and performing the tasks at once helps in saving time and effort. Ex: In blogging, if we are making a creative for social media once a week, 2-3 content types can be grouped and 1 creative can be made, or 2-3 creatives can be made at once and scheduled later for weekly posting. This reduces the pressure to handle many things together
Assign being pragmatic at work
Overloading and taking too much work at once due to either over expectation, Greed to climb the ladder of success early, or ignorance can cause uninvited tension and worry. Instead, being practical and setting realistic goals grabs the effectiveness to multi-task.
Knock off the distractions
Temptation to look at the phone for messages, notifications, and scrolling for profiles very abruptly sweeps away our focus from the task at hand. Keeping it a little away for a while in silent mode will help us to work more efficiently by focusing on the task we have taken and error-free work.
The game of mindfulness
Mindfulness brings awareness, controls our emotional levels, and improves our focus and attention. Practicing mindfulness in our everyday routine makes us Patient, Resilient, and accepting of handling more than one work at the same time.
Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning and focused effort.
