Fun things we writers do to make sure we have a good word count!

February has been a super fun month in terms of writing. Writing daily and maintaining a word count to reach 10k words by the end of the month is fun and is a great habit to maintain consistency in writing, but it can be challenging at times too.
While some of us wrote daily, some of us went days without writing and hurried to make sure we reached the target. To make this even more fun, we asked our participants what the craziest thing was that they did to ensure that happened. Enjoy the answers!
Elves writing posts
This month was crazy. I started off not knowing what I would write about. I would begin every post with the assumption that it would write itself. Which it did, magically, as though there were elves around scurrying to get the task done. What is crazier is that two days before the challenge was to end, my Facebook and Instagram accounts got hacked, which helped me to write my final post in which I asserted that the ideal place for hackers and fraudsters is the hottest part of hell! Thankfully, my Twitter account was not hacked, and I could continue posting my word counts there! 😅😅
The craziest and easiest way for me was Book Reviews when I suffered from Writers Block writing for my Novella 😂
Self-talk, writing emails if nothing else!
As for the craziest thing to meet my daily word count, well, let’s just say I may have resorted to speaking my thoughts out loud while speed-typing, just to keep those words flowing. It may have looked a bit odd, but hey, whatever works, right? Looking forward to more writing adventures ahead! 😄📝
I had a few long-time pending emails to reply & thanks to Write A Page A Day, I ended up writing long endearing emails😂
I scheduled writing time and tried my best to write then only. I ordered takeaway dinners quite frequently so that I focus on writing as much as I could 😀
Simply write without distractions
Ah that’s a tough question. I’m a writer, so that’s what I did – write. The tougher part was to remember to create the template and post the word count every day 😂
On Day 22, I missed 11 phone calls before realizing my phone was on silent. It did get some close ones mad at me, but I couldn’t help feeling pleased at my word count that day. 😊
I tried to pen down all my ideas on notepad and then converted it into my blog article or book review.
At some point of time, I couldn’t write post. I used to dictate a paragraph or two in phone’s voice-to-text from the bed 🙂
Nothing too crazy but I did burn the midnight oil quite a few times to make sure I reach the target. 😁
Living on the edge!
The craziest thing I did was writing the story before heading for an interview as I was waiting for my turn there.
Everyone were studying and were tensed, and I was there writing a story. That was something different I did. I am actually a very tensed person, but this writing challenge made me discover my other happy side.
❤️😊😊🥰
I thought to write at least 1000 words everyday but my workload and my assignments. Actually, I kept record of how much words I was writing so that I can take a breath of relief. I used to write at times at night 1-2 to fulfill the goal. I even kept materials ready I would refer to write.
I think the craziest would be writing in sticky notes as I edited a document so I would have a count of how many extra words I wrote 🙂
I was attending JLF was tired and was sleepy thought will wake up later and complete my writing. I slept and got a sudden jolt as if someone shook me got up realized had to write, sat completed my writing and posted on social media and slept again. In the morning, I was just thinking about my childhood and the homework.
Not exactly crazy but I did forego my precious afternoon siesta on a few occasions and even turned my phone on silent on others. 😀
Finding calm in the chaos.
Feb was a very hectic month for me. There was a wedding in the family. So, writing everyday was virtually impossible. I somehow felt I could, though many times I had this thought also of giving up. The craziest thing I did to keep the word count was to count every day. My son was my word-keeper. He would count every word, every day and tell me how many words are left and also go one step ahead to divide that by the number of days to tell me how many words I should now write each day. He was very sad to know that I didn’t ultimately finish the word count. In fact, he worked harder than me and was more hopeful than me too.
I loved the Challenge. Let me start with that. It was what I needed to get in grove. I knew I could write 10k. That wasn’t the question. Question was will I? I had a death in my family. So, writing between all that chaos was something else. I remember, one day I woke at 4 AM and the first thing I did was write. 😂 I didn’t post it at that time because I didn’t want to scare anyone around. But yes, it was simply the push I needed.! So, glad I took part.
