How are Digital Nomads losing their sheen as they work from anywhere?

Digital nomads are the new age term emerging out of the new business structure. Companies have now reformed their working styles and all thanks to the current situation in the world. The internet has made it possible to work from anywhere provided that you have a strong internet connection and your gadget with you. It all started from working from home in the beginning where the employees had to explain their nature of working and the fact that their efficiency is equal as compared to working in an office.
However, according to the law of nature whatever exists has some pros and cons. Digital nomads are the happiest today to travel along with work and still get the same pay. Even companies have started providing them temporary infrastructures as long as they provide results. But there is a downside too to this lifestyle.
If you are freelancer – no regular income
As a freelancer, you can work from anywhere as long as your clients are available online. But there’s no source of regular income. At times, you may have plenty of work but in some months, you may not have got a single assignment. During these times, you need to use all your saved money. In the situation, the place you are living should be cheap and within the city for easy access to essential requirements of your daily life.
Work deadlines depress the new work schedule
It sounds good that during the day you can enjoy sight-seeing the place and at night you can cover up your work commitments. But it’s not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes, there are unavoidable work calls during the day and you have to be present in your apartment at that time. On the other days, you may be able to work according to your set schedule but may have to work late to meet deadlines. With no fixed working times, deadlines may seem to depress digital nomads.
Hard to keep motivated without any fixed timings and pays
As discussed earlier, with no fixed timings to work, initially you may feel good about it but gradually it’s hard to retain the motivation to work. Some companies pay on the basis of days you work. At this point of time, it becomes demotivating that national holidays are not being paid. If you work, you get paid, be it any day.
Socially distant
It might be sounding good to live alone and work quietly without any disturbances. But as months and years pass by, there comes monotony in your lifestyle also. You start missing people you work with and your office environment.
You may be living with your family but socially, you are out of touch with everyone. Being with the same set of people with no other social connections also affects your mental health.
Relationships suffer
If one of the partners is a digital nomad then it’s hard to maintain long term relationships. Sooner or later, it affects your productivity at work and mental health. If you are stressed, you are not performing well at personal and professional level.
If both the partners are digital nomads then also it’s stressful. They both may be having high performing jobs, deadlines or different working hours. This way there’s very little time left for each other or mostly no time for each other. Both the partners need to carry out their relationship with patience and perseverance.
Packing and unpacking is time-consuming
You have to start all over again at every new place. Initially, it may look awesome to work from different places but every time packing and unpacking is tiresome. You should have limited things with you as nomads in order to lesser the stress. It is also time consuming as your time is precious and at every new place you have to figure out other essential things too to get the life going.
Well, it totally depends on how you manage your digital nomadic life. To some, it may sound exciting and adventurous that everything else falls back. However, it’s your way of choosing your career and life options that help you grow ahead.
