Lizards as pets? Hell, no…?

The one creature that has been hated by plenty of us on this planet for the dumbest reason of just simply existing is none other than the mighty lizard. Did you know that every year on August 14th, World Lizard Day is observed to spread awareness among people regarding the extinction of lizards? Surprising right? Definitely, not many people would have seen that coming. On this auspicious day, let’s waste our quality time figuring out more about these unique creatures.
First of all, let’s address the lizard… er we mean elephant in the room that has always bothered us for quite a long time. Why do lizards exist? And why do many people hate them? For Christ’s sake, what have they done to get this much hatred?
These are really hard questions because none of us have genuine answers to them. If we are faced with these questions of their existence, the most common answer would be just “I don’t know” as we simply don’t give a damn about it. The only reasonable answer could be “For the same reason all other life exists”. Right?
WHY SOME MUCH HATRED?
We, humans, have this tendency to simply hate someone without a valid reason at all. Why? Because we can. For heaven’s sake, we can never come up with reasons in a few situations. It is the same in the case of lizards too. Sometimes people might have had some terrifying encounters with lizards that they ended up not liking them. But other than that, it is mainly because of ignorance that people hate them when they could just steer clear of these creatures. What harm are they even going to cause? Closer to nothing!
Funny, because when we see them on TV or in movies, we love them. There can’t be a person who hates Rango or Pascal and not definitely Bruni and Godzilla. So, why in real life?
THINGS YOU’LL ONLY GET IF YOU ARE TERRIFIED OF LIZARDS
For those who hate lizards, it would be a nightmare to be in the same room as them. As soon as we spot them, we just wanna die. It’s just that the body can’t function while knowing that there is a lizard in the room. In such scenarios, sure most of us will dash out screaming even beating Usain Bolt’s track record. This way, our lives become a never-ending saga of begging for help from someone to get rid of them. By doing so those people are seen as otherworldly near to God in our eyes. Even then we will do a quick and thorough check-up in the corners and window to make sure they are really out. You know, just to be sure.
So, ignoring them is out of the question. In short, we can even face a dragon but never the freaking lizard!
Have you ever experienced an out-of-body experience? You might wonder how such a thing is possible. Simple, if out of nowhere a lizard falls on your head or shoulder, you will probably understand that feeling. It’s like the heart just stops for a second or two. Phweeee. Talk about getting a heart attack!
But such situations could be seen as a good sign. Crazy right? Because there is a spiritual significance of lizards in Hinduism! Come on who would have ever expected this? According to the ‘Puranas’, snakes and lizards are considered auspicious…Hmm, what? Yes, you heard it right! The reason behind this is that few cultures believe that a lizard is an avatar of Goddess Lakshmi. Thus, there is a spiritual significance if lizards fall on different parts of your body.
So, the next time you have a lizard falling on you, why not chant this mantra?
Om Namo Bhagavathe/
Kaama Rupine/
Mahaa Balaaya/
Naagaadhipathaye Swaaha/
P.S: Now, you may think what will happen if I recite it? Dude, nothing will happen. As they say, “It’s all in your head”. Just brush it off and go. And if you dare to, adopt one as your pet.😉
