Like everything else, fashion keeps changing but it also makes a comeback. We see the styles from the 50s- the 90s being recreated in different ways, bringing a wave of nostalgia and the fashionista in us begins to sway. Here are our favourite picks from the eras gone by that we think you would love too:
Corduroy
In the twentieth century, corduroy exploded in popularity as a fashion fabric in the 1970s, becoming a staple of everyday wear. The comfy fabric has made a comeback in recent years. Soft shirts, casual pants, or jackets have become super trendy, especially with the academia aesthetic and vintage styling. Corduroy is a classic fabric that probably may never go out of style.
Bell Bottoms
This is another style that is becoming increasingly popular again. Keeping it simple with a T shirt or all denim, maybe pairing it with a smart blazer, or a boho look, bell bottoms look great also because they can be paired with so many different shoe types.
Acid washed jeans
Giving out a rebellious punk vibe, acid washed jeans are being styled again. It was hated for a while in the 80’s and avoided but did you know, the style actually originated in California back in the ‘60s, when surfers’ jeans would become faded as they were exposed to the sun and saltwater? With a crisp white T shirt or an eye-catching graphic tee, acid washed jeans are super cool to go.
Velvet
Come fall and winter, velvet is so in! Be it turtlenecks or tank tops, lehenga blouses, a heavily designed dupatta, or going all in with a little black dress, a touch of velvet gives that oomph! Whether you want just a bold accessory or a head-to-toe look, there are velvet pieces for any season-festive occasion.
Puffy sleeves
Sleeves are kind of the soul of any outfit. Puffy sleeves are one of the retro styles that can be spotted easily. It has been trending again! This comeback has come with more grace and elegance. Tops with puffy sleeves can be easily worn with high waist jeans and skirts. You can also see coats and blazers with puffy sleeves.
Chunky sneakers
Chunky sneakers from the 80’s are back in style now and we did not see that coming! Chunky sneakers look great with a pair of jeans and top, dresses and even trendy sweat pants. Also, have you noticed that more often than not, sneakers are the choice of footwear these days be it with formals or casuals?
Polka dots
Ah, well, polka dots never left the industry. They have always been in style! The pattern can be found on tops, dresses, skirts, scrunchies, hairbands, footwear in vibrant colours and different sizes. They are a fun pattern that give out a happy vibe.
Silky scarves
They were famous in the Italian fashion industry and super popular in the 50’s. Well, they’re popular again. These scarves can be worn in various ways, which make them even more versatile. You can use them to cover your head and protect your hair or you can tie them around your neck, the handle of your handbag or wrist.
High waist pants
They look so chic and elegant and are comfy too. What more do we need? You can easily pair them up with shirts, T shirts and crop tops and achieve a retro and casual look. If you want an elegant look then you can pair it up with a designer top.
Vintage sunglasses
From aviators to large sunglasses that cover almost the entire face to narrow glasses, or brightly coloured neon glasses, all the vintage style glasses are on the front row right now. Pick one of your choice!
The thing about fashion is that it will always come back in style. It is so fluid. So create your own styles and be a trend setter! How many of the above outfits do you already wear and like?
