From “Midnight Dinners” to today’s glamorous extravaganza, the event has come a long way. The Hollywood and fashion world gathers in New York City for the annual Met Gala every year. It is one of the biggest fashion nights as Hollywood celebrities as well as famous influencers dress up according to each year’s given theme. It is also an annual fundraising gala that is held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
The event usually hosts around 600 attendees. It welcomes stars, young creatives, and industry paragons each year.
This year’s Costume Institute exhibition starring, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” celebrated the full work and life of Karl Lagerfeld, so the dress code was, fittingly, “in honor of Karl.” As Lagerfeld was a person who had designed for many houses—including his eponymous brand, Chloé, Fendi, and Chanel.
This year, we saw many celebrities all across the world attending the Met. From Alia Bhatt to Dua Lipa, the list goes on. So here are a few favourites of ours-
ANNE HATHAWAY
The Devil Wears Prada star looked absolutely breathtaking in a strapless safety pin dress by Versace, designed by Lagerfeld with white tweed, pearl accents, and camellia flower details. The ensemble was equal parts sophisticated and sexy. From hair to heels, Hathaway’s complete look is enough royal for her to shoot Princess Diaries 3.
DUA LIPA
The singer wore a 1992 white tweed ball gown by Chanel with a flattering basque waist, woven black trim, and a fringe hem to honor the museum’s new exhibit Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. She accessorized it with a silver pendant Tiffany & Co. necklace ( which is reportedly worth more than $10 million ) and wore her black hair down with slight waves. She truly looked like a princess.
SYDNEY SWEENEY
The Euphoria star graced the red carpet at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, in a pink beaded Miu Miu gown with a gauzy black bow above the hem. The 25-year-old Emmy-nominated actor perfectly embodied the designer’s vision of femininity with her hair coiffed to the heavens and topped with a black bow by celebrity hairstylist Glen Coco.
ALIA BHATT
The actor wore a white pearl-studded dress by Prabal Gurung to fashion’s biggest night. It seems Alia has won the hearts of the audience with her debut at the Met Gala. The actor never leaves a chance to impress the audience with her breathtaking looks.
BILLIE EILISH
Eilish embraced the evening’s theme by taking detailing favored by Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel to an exaggerated space, the over-the-top as well as a playful antidote to the more pared-down approaches to the event inspiration. Rather than sleek or subtly finger-raked, Mohapi’s tie-back was all about texture, the better to play up Eilish’s sheer and bedecked Simone Rocha dress.
The 2023 Met Gala was definitely a Met worth remembering. Celebrities took the theme to the next level, showing off all their creativity within the fashion scene.
