Podcasting is still an underground niche but is slowly gaining popularity and trending especially in the pandemic struck world. Everyone is sitting at home and looking for new ways to entertain themselves. And the world has seen a recent spike in the number of podcast consumers over the last few months.

All about podcasts

There is no dearth of topics about which one can make a podcast. In fact, because podcasting is still an underground medium, there is a lot of it that is undiscovered and waiting to be seen. You can find a podcast for almost everything you can think of, from cooking to serial killer documentaries; everything is available on this platform and is barely a click away.

PODCASTING IN INDIA

India has recently seen a lot of online software platforms for podcasting come up. The best part is it’s almost free to create and upload a podcast and requires minimal equipment. Most podcasters record with their smartphones at night to reduce the background noise.

From current affairs to pop culture, Indian podcasts cover all sorts of interesting topics today.

Cyrus Says by Cyrus Broacha is a podcast that serves up news and current affairs with a touch of satire and lots of puns. You can widen your knowledge spectrum while rolling on your belly!

Another popular Indian Podcast is Maed In India. This podcast brings into the spotlight some of the best works from renowned artists all over the country. The podcast connects the listeners to the artists not only through their music, but also through personal interviews.

If you’re a die-hard Bollywood fan, there is a chance you’ve heard about Anupama Chopra. The renowned film critic started her podcast channel Anupama Chopra Film Reviews in 2018 and already has over 90 episodes. She reviews both Hollywood and Bollywood movies and also conducts interviews with celebrated names from the film industry.

PODCASTING AS A STEPPING STONE TO VLOGGING

Podcasts can also act as stepping stones to a vlogging or YouTube career. Often, we’re not sure how to face the camera and speak confidently. This is an issue that is not faced by podcasters because they simply have to rely on their voice to get the work done. All one needs is a working script and adequate knowledge of what one is talking about.

Podcasts are an easily consumable medium as well because one need not sit in a place and concentrate for too long. It is possible to just plug in a podcast, put on your earphones and go about your day finishing your tasks while you listen to the news or a story.

PODCASTS HELP IN UNPLUGGING

Another way in which podcasts are better than other mediums is it helps the listener disconnect from their screens even if it is for a short duration of time. One need not sit in front of a computer or a phone to be able to concentrate on what the content is. In fact, this is one of the biggest reasons why podcasts have become so popular recently. Our newly introduced Work From Home culture has ensured that we get little to no time away from our screens. People are looking to “unplug” to de-stress and give their eyes a break whenever they can find the time. This is where podcasts come in.

Podcasts can work in tandem with blogposts especially when trying to send across a message as they have a sense of intimacy. You can listen to speaker’s voice and recognise the ups and downs and emotions behind what is being spoken. This may not be always possible through the written word.

In a world where social distancing has become the norm and we can no longer hang out with our friends and dear ones conveniently, podcasts are becoming the way to bridge the gap in human relationships and connect with each other.
