The Creative Soul Club is a safe space we have created to share our opinions on pop culture (movies, shows, poems, short stories). This was started way back during COVID times as a means for us to find some solace in art and creativity. Since then it has seen many resurgences!
Let's find out more about the club and how you can be a part of it.
The process we follow:
We choose a piece of content. You will have about 2 weeks to go through it. Closer to the date we share a few questions based on the content and then we connect on Google Meet.
In the past we have discussed movies, like Barbie, Chello Show, short stories like The Fall of The House of Usher, Laapata Ladies, quite a few poems and we have had insightful discussions with our community.
The next discussion:
For the upcoming discussion on 17th October, 2024 at 6 PM, we plan to discuss the movie Lunchbox (available on Amazon Prime Video).
Questions that will be discussed:
1. If you received a letter like Ila's, what kind of response would you send back?
2. Food is a powerful medium in the film, not just for sustenance but as a way of communicating. Do you think food can be a way to express emotions?
3. The lunchbox mix-up changed their lives. Have you ever had a small mistake lead to something meaningful?
4. Loneliness is a key theme in the movie. Do you think the film shows loneliness in a relatable way?
5. The movie ends on an open note. How did the ending make you feel, and what do you think happens next?
How to partcipate in the discussion:
If this is a movie that interests you and you'd like to be part of the discussion, reach out to any team member and we'll note down your name.
Here is the Google Meet link via which the discussion will happen.
Through our sessions, we hope to encourage people to express unfiltered opinions, connect with like-minded people and find new and interesting content pieces to indulge in!
Comments
1. Character Connection: I relate most to Phool Kumari, portrayed by Nitanshi Goel. Her journey from a naïve village girl to someone who embraces her ambitions resonates with me. Phool's determination to navigate her new life despite challenges reflects the struggles many face in pursuing their dreams while balancing societal expectations. 2. Rural Representation: The depiction of rural life in Laapata Ladies felt familiar in its portrayal of strong community ties and traditional values. However, the challenges faced by women, such as limited opportunities and societal pressures, were more pronounced than I had experienced personally, highlighting the ongoing issues of gender inequality. 3. Humor and Satire: A standout scene for me was when Phool confronts Manju Maai about her dreams and ambitions. The humor in their exchange, juxtaposed with serious undertones about women's roles, effectively illustrates how humor can be a powerful tool to address societal norms and expectations. 4. Personal Reflection: I have felt lost during transitions in my life, particularly after moving to a new city for work. I found my way back by reconnecting with my passions, exploring new hobbies, and seeking support from friends, which helped me regain my sense of identity and purpose. 5. Lingering Thoughts: The film left me with a lingering thought about the importance of female empowerment and the need for women to support each other in their journeys. It emphasizes that breaking free from societal constraints can lead to personal growth and fulfillment, a message that resonates deeply in today’s context. These reflections highlight the film's themes of self-discovery, empowerment, and the complexities of navigating societal expectations.
